Verb (ない形) + ことには / Noun + でないことには / な形容詞 + でないことにはunless
Indicates that if condition A does not happen, result B cannot happen. It is almost always followed by a negative or 'impossible' expression.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the negative 'nai' form before 'koto ni wa'
- Using it with a positive result (e.g., *benkyou shinai koto ni wa goukaku suru)
- Confusing with 'koto ni natte iru' (rules/customs)
