Around half the length of a full paper, so you can fit one into a single sitting. Vocabulary, grammar and reading only - no listening section.
What the N4 paper looks like
N4 uses the same two-block structure as N5: Language Knowledge and Reading marked together out of 120, Listening out of 60. The pass mark rises to 90 of 180. December 2024 passed 55.9%, the highest rate of any level, which reflects that N4 candidates have usually passed something already rather than that the paper is soft.
The mistake that fails people who knew the material
The same sectional minimums apply as at N5, 38 of 120 and 19 of 60. The difference is that N4 reading passages are long enough that slow readers start running out of time, which then eats into the listening section if you are still working when the audio begins.
How to use these papers
Use these papers to find your reading speed before the exam rather than after it. If you are not finishing the written half with ten minutes left, that is the thing to train, not more vocabulary.
A mock paper is only worth the time if you sit it the way you would sit the real thing: one go, clock running, no dictionary. Scoring well on a paper you paused halfway through tells you nothing useful about whether you are ready.
