Around half the length of a full paper, so you can fit one into a single sitting. Vocabulary, grammar and reading only - no listening section.
What the N3 paper looks like
N3 is where the paper changes shape. Language Knowledge, Reading and Listening are marked as three separate sections of 60 points each, rather than the two blocks used at N5 and N4. The pass mark is 95 of 180, the highest on the ladder apart from N1, and December 2024 passed 34.8%.
The mistake that fails people who knew the material
Reading becomes its own pass-or-fail section with a 19 of 60 minimum. Strong grammar can no longer carry a weak reader, which is the single biggest reason the pass rate drops from 55.9% at N4 to 34.8% here. Practising with full papers is the only way to find out whether that applies to you.
How to use these papers
Treat the reading section as the one to time strictly. Sit at least one full paper under exam conditions before deciding whether you are ready to register.
A mock paper is only worth the time if you sit it the way you would sit the real thing: one go, clock running, no dictionary. Scoring well on a paper you paused halfway through tells you nothing useful about whether you are ready.
